OUR SERVICES

Memorial at Sea, LLC provides a dignified, caring and affordable option to individuals and families looking for an unaccompanied spreading of ashes at sea.

Owners Jason & Colleen Gerke personally carry the cremated remains of loved ones to the Atlantic Ocean aboard their serene sailboat and ceremoniously disperse them into the sea. We record the entire ceremony so you can see it for yourself, and also have the video available to incorporate into a memorial service or use however you choose.

Ash Scattering Service at Sea

Our traditional ash scattering service typically starts by spreading rose petals in the water, followed by releasing your loved ones ashes to sea in a handwoven basket. We conclude the ceremony by reading a special poem or playing a special song. Since we perform this ceremony from our sailboat, it’s extremely quiet and peaceful without the noise of an engine.

Following the ceremony, we’ll send you a link to the video of the ceremony, a certificate providing the coordinates of the scattering, and also take care of filing all required paperwork..

Add on Service Items

Although our traditional ash scattering ceremony comes with everything you need for the perfect ceremony, we do offer several options of how you can enhance your event:

Biodegradable Urn

If you would rather set the ashes out to sea in an urn, opposed to naturally scattering them, these biodegradable urns float briefly in the water then break down within a few minutes.

$100

Memorial Wreath

We include a scattering of rose petals in our traditional service, but some choose to enhance the event with a sea-friendly memorial wreath. This provides a focal point for viewing as we sail away following the scattering of ashes. All components in these wreaths are ocean friendly and completely biodegradable.

$100

Live Feed Simulcast

Upgrade to include a live-feed simulcast of the memorial service. You’ll feel like you’re right there with us during the entire ceremony as we can talk back and forth, and you get the best seat on the boat for an unobstructed view.
