We are Jason and Colleen Gerke and look forward to serving you in fulfilling your family’s memorial wishes.
We provide personal service from answering the phones and e-mail to respectfully caring for the cremated remains of your loved ones. We personally handle the details from first contact to the ceremony on the Atlantic Ocean aboard our beloved 46-foot Hunter sailboat “Second Wind.”
We love sailing, which is why we chose to move to Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, Florida. Colleen grew up on California’s Central Coast where she enjoyed spending her childhood at the beach boogie boarding and surfing. Jason grew up on a farm in central Missouri. He fell in love with the ocean on his first visit to Cocoa Beach. And, that love deepened while studying abroad in Costa Rica. Jason and Colleen met at the zoo in Kansas City in 1997, and married in 2002. Missing the beach life, Colleen decided to take a “Learn to Sail” class on a local Missouri lake one summer. She immediately fell in love with sailing and talked Jason into buying a Catalina 22 sailboat, then upgraded to a Catalina 27 within a couple of years.
As experience and love of sailing grew, we decided we wanted to be closer to the ocean for more sailing adventures. So, we sold everything we had in Missouri and purchased a 46-foot sailboat on the First Coast of Florida. Amelia Island is now our full time port of call. When we’re not working at Memorial at Sea, we enjoy sailing off the Florida and Georgia coasts and exploring islands along the Intracoastal Waterway with our two children.
